He Claimed Self-defense, Police Disagreed.

St. Louisville Ohio Shooting

Youngstown Ohio, a licensed concealed carry holder is in jail after shooting a man over an argument about a parking space at about 8:45 on Saturday night.

Police say 24-year-old Nicholas Italiano of Struthers triple parked his truck at a Sami Quick Stop on Market St.

When a woman called him out on it, an argument began with Italiano slinging racial slurs at the woman. Then he got in his truck and blocked the woman in the parking lot.

The woman’s fiancé became involved and a physical fight started. After being punched in the face by the unidentified fiancé, Italiano drew the gun he is licensed to carry and chased the man around his truck attempting to shoot the fleeing man.

He eventually was able to get one shot on the man, wounding him in his arm. Italiano drove away but, according to one report, he then circled back, drove at the still fleeing man, then fled the scene once again.

He then called police to report the shooting, claiming he did so in self-defense. After reviewing the surveillance footage, police disagreed. Italiano was arrested for felonious assault and is being held in Mahoning County Jail.

The injured man was taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital but reported to be in stable condition.

This licensed concealed carrier did everything wrong in this situation.

Not only did he flee the scene of the shooting, (never the best idea if you’re the good guy and the threat has stopped), he also lacked a basic respect for his fellow citizens and let his ego get in the way when he was rightfully called out for his lack of manners.

Having a license to carry means you can be either rude or armed. Not both. They don’t mix, just ask Italiano.

Numbers 10 and 11 of the 12 Situations for Self-Defense Without a Gun illustrate this point exactly. The whole reason to get a CCW license in the first place is to be a responsible citizen.

If this is not something you think you can do, perhaps CCW is not for you.
