A burglar made an attempt to invade an Akron couple’s home on Sunday but was luckily held off at gunpoint by the couple until police arrived.

The home invader was 38-year-old DeJuan McCraney. Dejuan entered a home at the 500 block of Cordova Avenue in the early morning hours.

The homeowners, a 61-year-old man, along with his 43-year-old wife, were asleep in their bedroom at around 7 a.m. when they were awoken by a sudden noise. The couple assumed the sound was a family member returning home and ignored it at least until the suspect entered their bedroom.

Upon the invader’s entrance, the man and woman both grabbed firearms and held McCraney at gunpoint until the police came.

When police searched the home, they also found McCraney’s jacket on the couch. A loaded handgun was inside the jacket.

It was lucky that the couple acted as they did because in searching into McCraney’s past, the police found that he was arrested for aggravated burglary and having a weapon under disability. Police say he was also convicted of attempted murder in 2001.
